UI 7 Samsung update

I totally hate it.

Different looking icons on the home screen, phone freezes, access to texts and emails while surfing the net has changed. Now, I cannot turn the phone off and ending/disconnecting phone calls sometimes does not work.

Who else hates the update?

Not seen those operational issues after upgrade on my Galaxy S22 Ultra. The icons haven't changed for me as I use the Microsoft Launcher but you might try Samsung Themes app for more familiar icon sets.

2. Power Off Menu

Go to the Quick panel, tap on the power button ( Middle Button) scroll down to the side key settings, tap on long press, change it to piwer off.

No problems with it here. Usually use Niagara launcher, but after update used UI7 for a week or so to learn my way around the new setup. Thought it was great and an improvement, Went back to Niagara though as I prefer it, but it still uses all the background stuff like settings etc etc from Samsung.
They moved the power away from the side button so that it could be used for Gemini.

Reads more like a problem with the phone and personalisation, than anything.

Backup the phone and do a reset. Then  maybe try a different launcher or theme.

I haven't experienced a single one of those issues. I'm running it on a Samsung Galaxy S24+. 

I use Nova Launcher. 

I'll hazard a guess as to what you mean by can't turn the phone off - because as has been mentioned I noticed my side button would then activate Gemini rather than the shut down screen. For this you have 2 options

1) do what Victor said

2) re-assign the side button to bring up the turn off screen. 

After not liking option 1 I went with option 2.

I like the changes, but then these things appeal to my inner tech nerd.

The power "side" button not working took me by surprise, but since the phones are turned off so rarely it wasn't a huge inconvenience.

I've just had a re-read of OP. 

What does access to texts WHILE surfing the net mean? 

I can access my texts. I can also go on the Internet (I assume you mean use a Web browser such as chrome, Firefox etc) but I can't do both at the same time & never could. That's not a ONEUI7 thing, that's a me not being able to 2 things at the same time thing.

As has already stated the power button by default it is assigned to bringing up Gemini

you can either reassign it or keep it as it is and power the phone off by pressing the power and volume down button together
