Garages won't do warranty repairs

Hi, can anyone advise? I recently purchased a used car and its been a nightmare! Management light and instruction to have repaired 3 times now. Dealership instruction is to go through warranty. However I have tried numerous garages and not one prepared to carry out the work once they realise they have to through warranty. Warranty won't pay out unless strict protocol is followed. Meaning garage has to diagnose and get the go ahead from warranty first. Anyone else struggling with this one?

How long have you had it?
Age, mileage etc?
Take it back to selling dealer & let them sort it out via warranty.
Under your consumer rights dealer has one chance to put it right before you can ask for money back, depends on how long you have had it to how easy that is.Life in the slow lane0 -
Hi...thanks for responding. Car bought 30th May and broke down following day. Picked up for repair on the 2nd May and returned 17th May. Drove for 13 days and management lights back on 30th May. Taken in again and 'repaired'. Picked up on 5th July and faults again on 14th.
Peugeot 2013 plate, diesel semi automatic. 70k on clock. Bought for 4k. Tbh wife has lost all faith now. Going to insist on partial refund minus mileage used!
Main problem has been that garages won't do repairs when having to chase payment through warranty. Just wondered if others have had this problem 🤔0 -
What is the actual fault?
A warning light is not a fault, it's a warning.
Motor traders really dislike having to take back a car which has been rejected, it is very expensive for them, so you can expect them to resist doing so.
To successfully reject a used car the fault or faults should be significant having regard to its age, mileage and condition. Your wife's beliefs, however strongly held, might not be enough.

Thanks....the faults include 'incorrect fitting of turbo', oil leak and oil spray on the alternator. Also something to do with the gear box and gear selector...I believe. Came up with 3 diagnostic faults!0

I understand that you have taken your car round to several local garages who have offered various opinions on what might be wrong with it but have all declined to carry out a proper diagnosis or any repairs under the terms of this warranty you have. Is that correct?
I'm struggling with your dates and also figuring out who has done what and when!
Could you possibly draw up a simple timeline for us (please take care with your dates) starting from when you bought the car and itemising what happened or was done and by whom at each stage?
Your consumer rights are quite different from whatever rights you have under that warranty. What is the warranty called?1 -
Your dates are all messed up unless you have a time machine.0

Hi...thanks for responding. Sorry about dates...ive tried to clarify below:Car bought 30th April and broke down following day 1st May. Issue was with gears and selector.Picked up for repair on the 2nd May and repared by dealers nominated garage who the dealer is friends with. I know this after chatting to the mechanic. Car returned to us 17th May.Drove for 13 days and management lights back on 30th May. Diagnostics indicate issue with incorrect fitting of turbo and gear issue. Oil leak and oil spray on engine.Taken in again and 'repaired' on 5th June Picked up on 9th June and faults again on 14th June. This time loss of power and management lights back on. Also states 'major engine fault return to dealership for repair'. Car undrivable.Dealer on holiday so not collected till 25th June.Since then garage have tried to state mice may have been at the wiring and 2 bolts missing from the turbo inferring some form of tampering. Have advised as nonsensical!Have requested partial refund minus mileage used or exchange of car. They have responded with offer of £2,500 or keep the car with no further comeback!I'm at a complete loss of direction here and totally at a loss of what to do!The car is a Peugeot 208, 2013 plate, diesel semi automatic. 70k on clock. Bought for 4,295.0
