So a bowl of Wilkinson shaving soap is £2.89 in Boots and other high street outlets.
Amazon lowest price £6.90...
Ebay. £9,49...
So just a reminder that on-line is not always the best deal.
Plus I just went on price spy site which should show the cheapest deals and they came up with £3.22 at Natino, a shop I have never heard of!

Wilkinson themselves sell it for £2.50 online with free delivery for orders of £20 or more so seems online is better

Amazon has it for £3.99 but claims its marked down from £7.16

Certainly pays to shop around, online or offline

It is currently £3.99 on Amazon from a third party seller, but is out of stock with Amazon themselves. Up until a few days ago it was available with a headline price of £2.88 but with a discount code bringing it down to £2.25 per unit. It is available for £2.50 per unit from Wilkinson Sword directly and they offer free delivery on orders over £20.

Prices vary on different products, at different times, from different retailers, that is not really surprising.

Thanks, the £3.99 then adds £2.70 postage.

This is very common for smaller items and especially (but not limited to) 3rd party sellers.  Even if you have Prime free delivery, they throw on a lot to the actual sale price to make it worth their while posting it.  You'll be hard pushed to find many items under £5 that have free p&p.  I've seen small items on both sites that are e.g. £2.99 but with something stupid like £6.99 p&p.  Postage has gone up a lot, as has packaging. Amazon have even started to deliver things in retail packaging without any exterior box now, which I don't think is a bad thing because it saves trees, but that shows just how much they are trying to recoup costs.

Not only posting and packing but sending a delivery driver out of their way to post a £2.50 item to someone's door. They don't want to do that, they'd rather post a load of £100 items.

I rarely buy very cheap stuff from amazon unless it's something weird or specific I don't want to shop around for.

If it's under a tenner you can probably get it cheaper in the high street. But that does mean walking/driving there and searching it out.

All part of the big game.

  • Seller on eBay is probably dropshipping from Amazon...

Also have to watch out on Amazon to ensure you are on the right page:

    £4.99

    £11.90

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cholula-Original-Sauce-Fluid-Ounce/dp/B00PACY7B6

They get a lot of stick for sending goods with too much packaging. So I guess sending items in the original packaging means they can say they are cutting down on packaging waste, as well as saving cost.

I buy loads of things from Amazon and eBay.  We live in a fairly rural part of the country and a lot of big shops are 80-100 miles return.  Local shops rarely sell most of the things I want to buy.

I usually compare prices and prefer to buy on Amazon as its free postage and next day delivery as I have an account.  I have noticed on eBay there might be a dozen or more of the same item at different prices, the lower the price the more expensive the postage  :D.

I’ve never sold on eBay and wondering if the sellers are allowed to charge what they like.  I can’t believe they would be allowed to so perhaps one of the regular sellers could let me know.

Yes sellers can list at any price they like.  I believe some sellers when an item is out of stock will change the price to a rediculous amount and keep the listing open. Then reduce the price to normal when it is back in stock.
