I have a Sony Vaio laptop reference number VGN FE11S
My question is;
It has 2 x 512 MB of RAM installed, I would like to upgrade it to 2GB, do I need 2 x 1GB module or 1 x 2GB modules?
& would this work... http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3497002/Kingston-KTA-MB667-2G-2GB-DDR2-SODIMM-Upgrade-For-Apple-iMac-MacBook/Product.html?P36=72MG7N
The recommended memory is: SODIMM DDR2 533Mhz (2GB max in system)

The easiest way to answer this is to enter your make and model of laptop into the memory finder tool on the crucial.com website. This will typically show how many slots and what max memory the motherboard will take. You can then buy the cheapest appropriate type from play.com or wherever.
Very few laptops have more than 2 memory slots, so you will have to replace the existing modules.
Check the spec of your laptop on Sony's website - if it supports "dual channel" memory then you will get better performance with 2 x 1Gb modules. If not there is no advantage to having two matched modules.
(Incidentally the module that you link to is PC2-5300, whereas you say at the bottom of your post that you actually need PC2-4200 - so it may not work).0
