I have a friend whose dogs got out and attacked another dog. The other dog’s owner was bitten trying to protect her animal and my friend was prosecuted under the dangerous dogs act.
She did not lose her dogs, although she was convicted, but she had to keep them on a lead and muzzle them after that. They were not seized by the police at any point.

The police do not automatically take all dogs that have bitten someone.  Hiding is not going to help anything. My friend did not have any mitigating circumstances, you do. If you are concerned, and want to show that you are a responsible owner then train your dog to have a muzzle on at least for now.

I hope you have reported the assaults on you to the police, and the other person’s dogs being out of control?

I sould suggest you go the police station and explain everything to them.

The police will consider both sides of the story. and consider your dog was provoked into acting.

Is your dog a registered therapy dog?

If it is you could approach the organisation for help as your dog may  be suffering from the stress of the situation  and need further training.

Hiding away will make you look guilty.

Mark321123  you can email the police (it will be helpful if you have a direct email for them, if not, at least it is in their system date stamped and logged) and then take it from there.

If you are living in your car then you won't know if a report has been made to the police.  It can not be a long term solution and you do need to go home, if you have a social worker or therapist they may accompany you to the police station or arrange for them to visit you at home.  As above if the dog is from an organisation they need to know and maybe able to help, but I don't believe that emotional support dogs are recognised as such in the UK (could be wrong) and therefore not supplied by an organisation.  Attacks on yourself are not acceptable and I believe that your dog will have been under stress if it was with you at the time.  If the dog is from a rescue organisation they may be able to help with re-assessment.

Outside of guide dogs there is no formal legal definition with regards to what an assistance dog is. Basically anyone can get an animal and call it what they like without having any proof.

None of which is relevant anyway as  to whether the dog bit someone, or the circumstances, despite the importance of the dog to the OP.

I’m sorry to hear of your problems.  As you are living in your car does that mean you have nowhere else to live?  If not then go to your local council.  Most cannot help single adults as there is generally a shortage of properties but they may be able to help someone who has mental health issues.  Do you have a GP?  ask if they can write a letter of support

I think they did somewhere to live, but they were choosing not to go back there because of the worry about the dog.
