NHS viewer-windows program (Spectra)

Briefly ...

I've asked for digital access to my xray to they've sent me a link to Spectra

I can see my xray but to download it to my PC, I have to D/L a zip file which has 'images', 'reports' and a pdf with instructions.

Sadly, the instructions say that there should be an application included called viewer-images ... but sadly, despite them resending it ... it's not there 

Their IT suggest it may be a firewall blocking it but .... 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone know where I can get this application to save my xray?

There's no right click option on the actual webpage to save it so I've saved a screenshot, but wondered if the 'real thing' would be better?

Medical electronic images are commonly in DICOM format.


see if you can get a DICOM viewer program - it may help/work

It is indeed in a sub folder called DICOM

Any ideas where I could find such a thing?

This product (and others) is available from the Windows Microsoft Store if you prefer to source your software via Microsoft.

Just search for "dicom".

Excellent thank you - why they couldn't have just sent it as a .jpg goodness knows, but hey ho, I've found a way!

Jpeg is a lossy format so they probably don't want to have a low quality version existing in case someone uses it for clinical use

Just to note that if you don't want to install a dedicated viewer just for medical images in DICOM format then the popular (and free) image viewer Irfanview has a plugin that includes the DICOM format.

Most people install the plugins when installing or updating Irfanview, so if you have Irfanview already then you may already have a DICOM viewer.

But, I'm just a simple farmer by trade, so jpg is more than adequate for me.
