Think i will stick to getting the cam belt fitted and hope for the best, the car only passed it's mot back in August so was previously all ok.

Rich tea, yes it was lack of oil, combination of oil leak & general stupidity... a costly mistake.

make sure you do the water pump as well they are only about £20 and if the new/replacement engine has stood it could easily be a fault waiting to happen,to replace after would be in the region of £175/200
