recently my brother in law passed away, he didnt have a will so while sorting out his affairs we found that he and his late mother held some shares in Llyoyds Banking Group, following this we contacted Equiniti who confirmed they did hold some shares, we have so far managed to register my wife has next of kin and register both holders death using the small estates procedure ,we have paid a mall fee and in fact received some unpaid dividend cash , we are now trying to close the holding and sell the shares , so on our latest letter from Equiniti it states what we should do to sell the shares but the part i dont understand is that it states for certificated holdings, they require a valid share certificate , so the question is how do i get a certificate (didnt find one when clearing house only a old dividend statement from 2017) or will a certificate ever been issued ?
the shares are Lloyds Banking group plc, security LBGSA Ord

Once you have the certificate you can open an account with and lodge them with a stockbroker and probably sell them for less than Equiniti will charge e.g., iWeb (Lloyds Bank) for £5 per trade.2 -

Especially if it's a small holding that came as "free" Halifax shares. In which case they will likely be held digitally with Equinity as the Corporate Sponsored Nominee (CSN).Selling directly through Equinity is likely to be an expensive rip-off, but the easiest. You'd need to compare that cost against Eqinity's fees for having them moved to a nominee account with a broker in your name, who would sell them for about a fiver. It's something that must be happening all the time so Equinity, whichever broker you intend to use, or even users of another forum that's more directed to investment, such as Citywire, might know the costs.
