refund of foam insulation

Options
Hello, a friend has received a letter from a claims management company regarding misselling of spray foam insulation. The work was carried out about 4 years ago and they have just arranged for it to be removed. The claims company is offering to try and get the money back including possibly money towards it being removed.
The company who originally installed it have gone into liquidation. Although it was paid by credit and debit card it is obviously more than 120 days ago so charge back isn't possible I don't think.
My question is how could the claims company reclaim the money? I also don't know how they got my friend's name and address. I've done a little search into the clainms company and they have positive feedback but all very recent which is a bit odd.
Any thoughts gratefully received.

    They won't.  They will end up charging your friend the bill to remove the foam.

    They do the work.
    Then they "try to" get the money back from a company that's been liquidated.  It will fail, of course.
    So your friend gets sent the whole bill.
    The foam removal company gets paid and is happy.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    If the company is no longer trading then it's a waste of time unless there is some form of insurance backed warranty. Even then it would all depend on the T/C of the warranty.

    Which you could do yourself. Rather than pay a 3rd party who would want a chunk of any payout.
    Any S75 claim would be better done by them on the same basis.

    I’m not sure what area is involved but several trading standards teams have issued press releases in the past few months about issues around spray foam, including these;

    https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/trading-standards-warn-homeowners-over-spray-foam-installation/

    https://www.bromley.gov.uk/news/article/820/trading-standards-alert-spray-foam-insulation-scam-warning

    I would suggest they speak with the citizens advice consumer advice service on 0808 223 1133 for further advice.
