... it was found that the wiring to the lights and sockets in other rooms were'nt earthed. So, hes going to send me a quote next week to have all the extra work done. I' m again wondering what would be a fair price?
Depending on exactly what's wrong, it might need anything from a few metres of additional cable to a full rewire. So £200-2000+. Did the electrician say anything more specific about the shortfalls?
I think its going to be at the higher end of that!

This is very simplistic description but

    1. Living room; currently has a single socket with a 4 way extension lead plugged into it. Proposed 2 new double sockets! Plus a new dome shaped flush light for the ceiling and rewire.

    2. Backroom rewire to one double socket and possibly move a single socket to a different position. Another new flush light!

    3. Bedroom 1. rewire 1 single socket . Plus rewire to light fitting!

    4. Bedroom 2. rewire 1 single socket or replace with a new double socket. Plus rewire to light fitting!

    5. Hall, rewire to a single socket and rewire to two each way lights!

    6. Kitchen, drill through from the hallway to reach a double socket in the kitchen.  New kitchen flush light.

    7. Garage; the cable leading from the bungalow was twin and earth so needs to be replaced. Possibly move the single socket further back on the garage wall in order to place the tumble dryer further back and therefore get the car in the garage. Rewire to garage light.

I think thats the gist of it!

If you are going to the expense of rewiring, you need more sockets.
    • Lounge/Dining rooms - 4 doubles at least.
    • Bedrooms - 2 doubles (or more).
    • Kitchens - Depending on size, 4 to 10 doubles above the worktop, plus a single for each under-counter appliance on a switched spur.
    • Utility rooms - sockets for all appliances (on switched spurs if under counters) plus one or two spare doubles.
    • Hallways - A double at either end, or if short, just one double in the middle.
The cost difference between a single and a double socket is a matter of pennies, so always fit a double.
Garages, depending on what they are used from benefit from a double socket at either end (metal clad) and fitted with RCDs. If you use the space as a workshop, more sockets will be needed.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

The quote for the rewire is £3834 inc.vat and includes a new mains board for the garage plus two extractor fans; 1 bathroom and 1 kitchen. Sounds a bit steep to me but ive no idea how much these things cost!
