If you've put money into the car, you might as well keep using it as you won't get that back if you sold it

What's the reg number of the car, so we can look up the MoT history?

Prior to this, there was an advisory on a tyre and another on brake pads wearing thin.

Ooh thank you! So that confirms, no sub-surface scanning or inspection for surface cracks.
With a couple of exceptions (eg. emissions testing) the MoT consists of looking, tapping, tugging and poking things. Nothing more technical than that.

Never had a drive shaft go.
CV joints yes, not for over 20 years now.
This was on old Rover's with 120k miles plus.
I would keep your car, Honda's are very good cars.

Yep, from that MoT history alone I'd not have thought the car was approaching the end of its life. But the driveshaft does look very corroded. Normally an MoT tester will advise of underbody corrosion, what's the rest of it like? This is an old Honda right?

I can replace driveshafts in a few minutes. What's all these hundreds of pounds labour charges all about?

I love my little Jazz, really hoping they bring out an electric one soon.

2012 honda. Funnily enough I was under it at the garage about a month before while they were showing me what was causing the rattling I could hear (heat shield corroded at the bolt). I commented on how rusty it all seemed and asked if I needed to be worried about it. (The answer was no)

    You already know.

There are "book times" for all these jobs, so if "the book" says 2 hours, they charge 2 hours.
If they have a short-cut to do it in 20 minutes then they make money.

What they should never, ever do is 'phone you to say the car is ready in less than 2 hours!

Some garages will quote less because they know they can do the job in a much shorter time.

You can’t really replace a drive shaft in few minutes, stop exaggerating.
