EV DUAL TARIFFS

Hello , looking to see if anyone else has had issues with a dual tariff (EV TARIFF) where electricity usage between certain times is a different rate from “normal” usage

I have been with BGAS (British Gas) for 12 months and there bill has charged me all my usage at premium rates

the issue is that they haven’t set the meter up correctly and (have done nothing to ensure they could uphold their contractual obligations) their reply is that they just need to charge me at the single (premium) rate for the whole year

BGAS installed the electricity meter and the error is on their side of the meter , yet their response is that I will just need to suck it up and be billed premium rates

I’m keen to understand if I am the only one that this has affected?

Better suited to the energy board. Asked for it to be moved.

How often did you receive a bill?   Did you not notice for the whole year that you were being charged the full rate?
The meter shouldn't come into it really, all it has to do is give them a reading every 30 minutes (if you allow them to) and they then work out how much you should be charged.    Tell them to use the 30 minute readings that they have to work out what should have been on full rates and what on the discounted rate.

My aunt and uncle were with BG and it would be 6 months before they got a bill which is pretty bad.

Probably a good time to dump them and go with a utility provider who provides a full detailed bill every month.

I am with Octopus on their Agile tariff.      The price changes every 30 minutes to a different price.   At the end of every month I get a bill from them and each day of the month has 48 lines showing exactly what I used that day in 30 minutes slots.      Obviously the bill is very long and you don't read it all - however, when there are problems it makes it a lot easier to look at it and work out what has gone wrong.

I believe this tariff is dual rate (like E7), not a ToU half-hour billed tariff, so that is where the meter comes into it.
BG may be able to use the half-hour data, if they have it, to work out what the use split should be, but they will not be able to just bill based on that data automatically.
I would suggest the OP escalates this to a complaint ASAP, and meanwhile uses the half-hour data to make their own calculation so they know what to ask for from the Ombudsman when it reaches that stage.
Do not rely on BG to make the calculation...
