On another point does your Grandad have a LPA in place? If not you should seriously think of arranging one. I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment but it is a relatively simple online process that could make dealing with future issues much easier.

No, but I think it’s definitely a conversation that needs to happen. Is it free to do? Everyone I have spoken to have said it cost quite a lot of money. (We don’t really have the money)

Were they also paying home insurance from the closed account, or was it paid in full.

Double check along with the renewal date.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Great! And it doesn’t need a solicitor?

Good question - I will need to look into this and find out. I think my next step is going to contact the bank and see a list of payments that were going out. Really need to get on top of this.

I hadn’t realised how much my nan did in terms of the admin side of things.

Is there a trying else you recommend on doing?

I do know I am now the sole executor of his will. Is there anything you recommend I do to make things easier when the time comes? (Long may it be years from now, but it has really worried me)

No you can do it for him, there are two a financial one and a health one both £82. You can go on line for the forms but I believe you have to print them off for signatures.  Make sure you follow instructions about the order and date of signatures or they will send them back.

No. If necessary he can complete on line, print off and send in. But he needs someone who can confirm that he has mental capacity to make decisions. Do not try to fudge this, if anyone has expressed concern, you need someone who can make a professional decision as to his capacity at that time.

But please understand that your grandparent is entitled to make decisions that are not in their best interests, as long as they are not a danger to themselves or others.

So I have some concerns about his memory, which has come to light since my nan has died. This could change things.
