Hi, so sorry for the lack of response. I've had this account for 20 odd years and I've never been able to get notifications to work properly so have only just seen the post. I've since caught up with pencilpot1, but thought I should reply on here for the benefit of anyone else who reads this post in future.

I did post on the Legal Beagles forum that was suggested but didn't really get anything. However I can highly recommend another site, which had very knowledgeable, helpful, impartial people posting, who were instrumental in my achieving a decent outcome. The site is https://nationalconsumerservice.co.uk/.

Long story short, I sent the LBA, when they didn't respond within the deadline set, I went ahead and raised an MCOL. The company waited until 2 hours before the court deadline to respond - so clearly playing games - and their response had a number of untruths in it.

Taking on board advice from the aforementioned legal forum, I contacted the company outside the MCOL process, offering to settle out of court for a lower sum. The lower sum being solely my costs incurred that I have invoices for (~£1800), and excluding other costs like interest, compensation.

After more gameplaying, they agreed and paid me directly via BACS, so I closed the MCOL down.

To anyone else reading this with similar issues, I would say stick to your guns. DIYK seem to play nice until they realise you're getting serious about achieving a proper resolution, and then start lying and playing games in the hope you will give up. But they clearly didn't want the expense of a court process and so it's worth staying firm.
