Hey! Actually I think the bath is ceramic and has broken down around the plug area, its very old. We need to change the shower as well aass that leaks too, but each job leads to something new tjat needs to be done first, one of thise viscous circles of not sure what to do first!

I am setting myself a challenge: No impulse buys for 31 days. Food is allowed, DD's are allowed and planned purchases are allowed, such as a new clock for my room at work which is essential – and the muck heap removal. The muckheap money is already put to one side, and I will take the clock cost out of DH's wages this week or my overtime before sending the balance after food shopping to the debt.

Last nights tea was takeaway, DS and DH let their business pay so faggots from olio were tonight with some chips and gravy. I had bacon, olio mushrooms, peas from DH's faggots meal from Olio and potatoes from the farm shop, with homemade bread and butter to make a sarnie.

Lots of discussion here today about the oil situation. I've had my coat on this afternoon inside as it has been sooo chilly. The walls are 2ft thick stone and the double glazing is old and very drafty. We put towels against the bathroom one when the wind blows that way, else the curtains literally blow out from the window.

It's difficult as we are in an area with no gas. Most people have log burners and coal agas in the kitchen. It's like the land that time forgot. Anyway, options are log burner but the chimney breast is fake, made from timber and plasterboard so would need a twin lined flue as a minimum. The TV is above it so as we don't really want to lose that look unless the flue can be really insulated that won't work. We are ringing an installer on Monday to see if he can advise us. 2nd option is a gas living flame fire, a lot less heat and not such widespread heat but a lot less work. Literally a gas pipe from bottles outside, could be run through the roof as it's part of a one storey extension. DH's other idea, free standing oil radiators or gas bottle heaters. Sigh 😕 I want a log burner 😭. Either way if the prices don't go back down by June we will bite the bullet and make a decision. Hopefully by then I might have some briquettes made from the horse poo that may persuade DH on cost of heating going forward.

Wood burners do cause pollution, and the PM2.5 particles aren't healthy for you so it's actually good for your health if you don't get one. They are higher risk for a few different conditions. I'm lucky that we can have central heating on our house.

I love our multi fuel stove. It heats the whole house We do have oil as backup, currently the heating is off but it’s used to heat the water.

I had a log burner installed when I moved in 3 years ago. Absolutely love it. The newer stoves are more regulated and less polluting as long as you use the correct fuel.

Thank you @katsu it's always good to consider the environment 😊

I think that's why it feels so cold @lucielle usually we have the water on twice a day via the aga. It's a cooker with central heating boiler/water heater behind it. Usually having the water on heats the aga so that heats downstairs in the kitchen and the radiators get hot upstairs. There's just so much warmth to the house. Am imersion heater just doesnt do the same. I think that's why I'm missing it so much, it's not the heating part 😕 🤔

Thank you @chocolatefund (great name BTW) that's good to know! I'm definitely with you both in loving a log burner. There's something about the widespread heat, it heats the walls. I'm dreaming of a cozy evening, snow outside and log burner on.

We did have a fire a while ago it was a biofuel log burner. We had to fill a small tank with fuel. It was meant to be and marketed as highly efficient, eco fuel etc. but boy did it stink! We kept it a few days to make sure we weren't happy with it but back it went for a full refund. It made DH feel ill.

Its raining heavy this morning bbc weather says its patchy rain the for rest of the day and then brightening up aroun 4pm. Little pup is eqger for a walk so need to try and do that for her. She needs to patrol her territory like a raging bull! Honestly the energy she uses to fight off imaginary threats that rarely materialise....

Good selection of food from Olio last night, it's a late collection but very worth it. A few meals, some veg and tiger bread that DH is a bit partial to, oh and a lovely bunch of flowers that will brighten the room 😊
