    Hi Murmansk and Gemini
     :)
    Thanks for your reply.
"...for now, the consistency and purity of virgin steel from blast furnaces remain the industry standard for safeguarding the quality and safety of tinned goods".

So it's about food safety AND build quality.
     o:)
WSJ had a story to tell...
Food prices rising because of Trump's import tarrifs!
     :'(
In US they make their cans from Blast Furnace steel.
But there's not enough Blast Furnace production capacity for all that tin-coated, ultrathin sheet steel.
So they import much of it from Canada and Europe.
US steelmills are switching over to EAFs because they're more efficient and profitable.
Mr Concalves said “It’s done. When the horse leaves the barn, the horse does not come back to the barn".
     :p
I was puzzled why they couldn't/wouldn't use recycled scrap for their humble tin cans.
Impurities sounds like a good enough reason to me.
And those Tramp Elements sound even better.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I saw the thread title and assumed that it would be about extending your Wi-Fi reach by using 2 cans and some string...

    Just as a related note...

When Alfa Romeo were mostly taken over by the Italian government in the 60s/early70s they had to use a high percentage of recycled steel in car production. The impurities in said recycled steel (along with some other issues) led to bad early rusting problems with the cars of that era, and was only solved late in the 70s/early 80s when the mandate to use so much recycled steel was lifted.

    As they say...
    Q. Where do Italian cars rust?
    A. Between the number plates.
