Poor Workmanship, out of Warranty

Options
Hi all,

My house is 11 years old, so 1 year out of warranty. It has come to light that brackets holding a protruding roof over the bedroom window is coming away from the wall.

I have had a builder look at it, and he says it hasn't been attached properly and the whole thing will have to be taken off and reattached.

Unsurprisingly, the builders and NHBC wont look at it and  my insurance doesn't cover poor workmanship.

Is there any action I can take? doesn't seem fair, as its clearly an issue that has been there since day 1, but isn't something I would have ever noticed until it got bad.

Any advice much appreciated.

NHBC isn't a cover all kind of issue
The first 2 Years the builder is responsible the further 8 years is a insurance policy which may not have covered the defect.

Isn't there any other action Oli could take? After all, this would appear to have been an inherent flaw (tho' obviously I don't know).
What if - say - the walls began to crack, and it was discovered that the founds were only a third the thickness specified? Would the 'builder' get away with this?
Oli, do you have Legal Protection included in your home insurance? If so, no harm in calling them up for a chat - it is free.

No, but I'm pretty sure it would have covered builders not building the property correctly, if it was in warranty, otherwise its worthless.
