Good morning all (just), thanks for the start @Scarlet. Apart from one brief shower yesterday, the rain managed to hold off and today looks as if it will be much the same during the day but with rain more likely overnight. It feels a bit milder too as the wind is now coming from the south west.
DS and I had a good catch up chat yesterday and he re-drilled the holes for the mirror over the fireplace for me so that's another job ticked off the To Do list. In the afternoon I sorted through and re-arranged the sideboard contents - it's much tidier now and several bits and pieces were either binned or added to the CS bag. Just need to remember what's been put where! Last night's TV highlight for me was the first in a series of programmes about the restoration of a derelict Victorian grocery shop in Masham (not too far from TA's neck of the woods) by volunteer locals with a view to re-opening it as a cafe and historic bakery, using the original ovens if possible. It included snippets of people's memories of how the store used to be, with quite a few of them hoping for hot cross buns to be made there again.
Usual daily stuff today and after lunch I'll get the sewing machine out to continue sewing up the new cushion covers that I started last week but didn't get far with. If I can achieve that I'll be one happy bunny. Tea tonight is a corned beef crisp-bake with spicy wedges and side salad.
@Ruby - Good luck with the job hunt, I hope it won't be long before you find something.
@mehefin - Glad to hear your visit went better than expected - your magic cake must have helped!
@themsthebreaks - Best wishes for your mum today - I'm wincing at the thought of it!
@Chrisca - Our local Homebase re-opened last Friday as a Wickes store; it too has an upstairs but I can't for the life of me remember if there are escalators or not. I'll be paying a visit this week or next so will find out then.
Enough waffle, time to make a move. Have a good day and take care, the usual hugs where needed or wanted. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
YL I watched and enjoyed that programme too. It's quite close to where we have our.caravan but further afield from Casa Abuela unfortunately
We went a couple of times for market day and a spot of lunch. X"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"7 -
@TA - I very rarely have TV on during the day (too busy and the schedules are full of repeats anyway) but do have it on in the evening and really enjoy coming across little gems like this that can so easily be missed amongst the usual offerings. An ex-neighbour who used to live there with her parents in her younger days would take her own boys to visit their grandparents and sometimes my two went with them. They looked forward to those visits, especially as the grandmother had a cafe that sold lovely cakes.Be kind to others and to yourself too.4
