When energy suppliers are setting the prices on the fixed tariffs they offer in the market they are using the forward energy purchase prices on the wholesale market.

These forward prices reflect the industry's best prediction of what will happen in the future for supply and demand.

My point is: there's no value in trying to guess whether prices going up or down - the professionals in the industry are already doing this and it's reflected in the prices that are on offer.

Best action is just to use the competitive nature of the market and regularly choose the cheapest deal available.
