Engeneering wood question

I’m planning to have engineered wood flooring installed throughout my property, including the staircase. The contractor/supplier I’m considering has recommended ordering 30% more than the actual square meterage required. The wood I’ve selected comes in planks measuring 1900mm x 190mm.For the staircase, the contractor has quoted £37 per step and an additional £37 for each nosing.Isn't it quite expensive? I am london based (SW)

15% when I buy it normally works quite well. It’s not something I’d install on stairs so unsure of that but I’d definitely not put hard flooring down in bedrooms from a personal point of view. Too cold, and too noisy, especially for downstairs.

Noisy, cold, expensive & out of fashion.
But it's your house & money.

Out of fashion? As good a reason as any to have it!

30% sounds a lot - 10-15% would be my preference - maybe check first that you can return full packs for a refund?  Would not say it's particularly cold and no way is it out of date - maybe greyteam has the ubiquitous grey tiles, carpets and walls in their house ;)
Can't comment on the price as I did my own, but I'd be worried about it on stairs unless you're adding a carpet runner.

When i did my floor the amount that I needed on top of the rough square metres was maybe 2%.
What you cut on one side becomes the beginning of the other side, so unless you want to keep spares I really don't see the point in having so many more planks.
