Yet another ESA to UC question.

Just had my migration letter. Did it all online ok but just reading and wondering why claims pre April 2017 get so much less. My claim was pre 2017. I know they said it won't go down to start with but that's temporary. Anyone know why this is? Don't really want to be on hold for an hour to ask DWP.

    There are two different groups.

LCWRA pays £423.27 (ESA Support Group)

LCW (ESA Work Related Activity Group) pays £158.76 only pre April 2017, because the previous Government changed the rules - any new claim found to have LCW /ESA WRAG after April 2017 wouldn't be paid any extra money.

It's the opposite way around for people who have limited capability for work (LCW). If you are currently in the ESA LCW group and claimed prior to April 2017 you will get the UC equiavelent additional payment (which is £158.76 per month). Anyone who claimed ESA (or UC) after April 2017 and was found to have LCW gets no additional payment. If you are in the ESA Support Group, this payment has continued and you will transfer to the UC equivalent group, which attracts a payment of £423.27 per month.

Not sure I understand those "LCW /ESA WRAG"  Is the activity group different to the support group? I'm in the support group and have been getting £323.50 a fortnight.

    Limited Capability for Work (UC)
/ Work Related Activity Group (ESA) is when you are expected to engage with a work coach for work preparation activities, anything short of applying for jobs.

Limited Capability for Work Related Activity (UC) / Support Group (ESA) - which you've been in, no work preparation activities.

    Yes.
LCW (Limited Capability for Work) is what ESA used to call "Work Related Activity Group".
LCWRA  (Limited Capability for Work Related Activity) is what ESA used to call "Support Group".

(At the risk of confusing things- even in the ESA legislation they have always been LCW & LCWRA)
