In our previous property a bungalow.
The rood leaked
Several roofers and a good one identified work out felt.
I'm not sure if the roof tiles were caly or concrete but they were bigger
and I guess concrete - size approx 10 inch wide x 14 ins long
Next door had his roof removed and refelted as he'd had the same problem as us and the oldtiles were cleaned - all good
But roof did not look new.
We had tiles doen as well with those very dark grey black ones form Marley IIRC - the tiles are very weak and roofer cracked/broke several when fitting them and two cracked within the year even without someone going on the roof. After that until we moved it was ok
Therefore, it is just not the price but the quality/strngth of new tiles
Also, ask which felt they are using along with which tiles if you are going for new tiles so you can choose.1 -
Thanks for your reply. I won't be reusing my tiles as they're 90 years old and are at the end of their life, plus the roof won't look new.
One roofer said he preferred mortaring the ridge tiles but that isn't compliant with BS5534.0 -

It turns out I was quoted for plain tiles when I asked for interlocking. That's brought the cost down by £4000.0
