If you're staying with this company do take pictures as you leave your lodge otherwise you may get a hateful letter falsely claiming you left it in a terrible mess and demanding money for deep cleaning - otherwise they'd turn it over to a debt collection agency. If you haven't booked with them yet - I'd advise you to think again.

Debt collectors have no power at all, other than to send threatening letters.
They would actually have to take you to court to get the money, which they are unlikely to do for £50.
Although that does seem quite dirty, so have they sent the letter to the wrong person by mistake? Did you take a dog, and have you contacted them? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Was this a letter written by a trainee as part of an interview exercise?0

I'm surprised they're making a bid deal out of unwashed pots/crockery and food/rubbish not in the bin. Bags of dog poo on the decking is rather disgusting though. If you were not responsible then perhaps they sent the letter to the wrong person. Whilst the letter might not be the most professional, I don't think it could qualify as being 'hateful'0

did you leave the cottage in the state they describe? Or is it a mistaken identity?
I guess there could be big scale of dirtiness. A few unwashed cups and plates - probably an overeaction. Kitchen left disgusting with rubbish everywhere and dog waste on the decking - not nice.
Whether they can enforce it or not? Probably not worth anyone's time. Suprised they didn't just bill your credit card for the fee (as many places would do)

We've stayed with them 8 or 9 times, never had a problem. They do ask that you clean your crockery before you leave (we just stack the dishwasher and put it on before we go) and empty your bins. There are communal bins very close to the lodges for you to use split into recycling and general waste.
I found it a bit much the first time but got used to it.1 -
I would’ve thought it was automatic to do the dishes and empty the bins before leaving? I wouldn’t dream of not doing that, even without being asked. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I leave any self catering in the same clean state that I find it.
All dishes cleaned and put away, all rubbish in bins.,place hoovered to remove traces of dog hair, , beds turned down but tidied. Bathroom left clean and tidy.
Fridge emptied and wiped.
All dog mess picked up and binned.
That is the point of self catering.
I had one owner write to thank me for how clean the property was after we left,
If you want somebody to clean up after you go to a hotel and pay hotel prices.2 -
