Benefits

Hi, I have recently come out of a job by mutual agreement as I have been really struggling with mental health. I don't want to go back in to a high pressured job and wanted to take something with less hours and obviously less money. Would I be able to claim anything to help support financially. I have a 17 year old that is in full time education and live on my own with my son living with me part time as shared custody with his dad.

Thanks

Do you have savings or investments of more than £16,000?

You can use a benefits calculator such as Entitled To: https://www.entitledto.co.uk/

I think stress counts even if it’s not “verified”. It might be worth getting a GP appointment as they can advise about stress, which you are probably suffering from if you have left your job due to pressure. They may be able to write you a fit note to say you can only do certain kinds of work which will help with DWP.

You could try to put in a claim for New Style JSA and Universal credit if you are eligible. JSA would be because you have paid NI, you may be able to get this even though you have left your job voluntarily if it was due to stress. UC would help with rent etc if you do not have enough savings.
