parked on street in Manchester, might have to take the ticket on the chin

Parked in Manchester near Oldham Street around 7.45pm in a legit parking bay in a back street. Sign said "pay at machine" which was some distance away. I forgot that free parking is only after 8pm. Came back to a ticket. Warden must have been hovering to catch people out just before it clicked over into free parking. I'm assuming I don't have any kind of way of wriggling out of this one??

You are best to post a council pcn over on the FTLA parking forum website after reading their posting requirements first. Mse parking forum tends to specialise in private parking company notices2
