Hi everyone. Newbie here and have been searching the threads but haven't got the answers I need. Basically, I'm on pip and UC. My husband is my carer. However, he is thinking about starting his own business. The business will not make loads f money and won't be able to actively grow it due to my health needs, which differ day from day.
Obviously, we want to do things correctly. But I'm at a loss of where to start. All the advice I'm getting is you need to prove you're actively trying to grow your business, but he can't do that. What do we do?

If your husband is noted as carer and is receiving carers element under your joint UC claim, then he will be in a no work related requirements regime. Therefore, there would be no expectation by UC of how many hours he works or how much he earns. He would be found NOT Gainfully Self-Employed because of this and would just report Self-Employed income & Expenses at the end of each UC assessment period.
As soon he starts any Self-Employed activities he will need to report change under Work & Earnings. And he will then have to attend Job Centre appointment so they can make sure claim is on correct basis and explain income & expenses reporting. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.2
