Neighbour’s Bindweed Invading My Garden – What Can I Do?

Hi all,

I like to keep my garden reasonably tidy (nice lawn, flower beds etc). My neighbours... less so.

We have a wooden fence dividing our properties. The bindweed is coming underneath the fence and really starting to take over my flower beds.

Whats the best course of action?
- Use weed killer?
- Cut/pull up the bind weed?

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Weed killer is your best bet. Unfold the bindweed from the other garden plants wrap it round a stick and then spray the leaves on the stick, which will keep it away from everything else in your garden.
Use a weed killer that goes back into the roots.

Bindweed is one of those where if you leave a bit of root behind it grows again so digging it up can be quite difficult. And if the roots are on their side of the fence, you’re not going to be able to reach them anyway.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

We suffer the same problem with neighbour's bindweed & blackberry as already mentioned a systemic weedkiller is the only real option,  do as elsien suggests to isolate & treat, glyphosate is our prefered weapon of choice it's not ideal but needs must.

The other option is to place a physical barrier underneath the fence, exrra boarding or a plastic barrier.

Thanks guys. Glysophate it is then. :|

Its a pity - the neighbours are nice people and very keen gardeners. But they like their garden to be 'wild' and 'shabby chic'. Which is fine, and looks nice, but not when it encroaches on my garden and takes over everything (ivy and bindweed).

They very much abhor the use of chemicals, but I wouldnt have to if they kept their side of the fence a little orderly!

If you keep your eye out you'll probably be able to acquire some slates for free - saving from the tip - stuck vertically down they form quite a good physical barrier
