Overground pond for goldfish?

We've had our goldfish for over 20 years. I think they're close to outgrowing their present fishtank. Has anyone had experience of an outdoor overground pond? I've a couple of cats who go outdoors and I feed a fox, who lives close to our back garden, so don't think a 'normal' pond would be safe. Do they freeze over in winter? How would I get oxygen in the water?
