Everything is level, so why…

Everything is showing as level. It’s sheet panelling, not individual tongue and groove strips. The panelling on the left wall isn’t leaning in, it’s absolutely vertical. The panelling on the back wall is straight, the line is absolutely vertical.

A friend did it, I didn’t see it until he’d left (we were having a DIY day) and I want to refit it anyway as there’s no access panel for the sink / toilet. But why on earth does it look like it’s not straight?

Be gentle on me. I’m trying my hardest to get my money out house finished.

Hopefully this is it! Not sure why I couldn’t attach it to the original post.

How are you measuring the verticals ?
With a spirit level - They can be wildly out, and few are really accurate.
Plumb line - Errors can creep in if the weight is rubbing against a surface. You also need to be careful when sight the line and marking it on the wall.

I’ve used two traditional spirit levels and a laser one. I’ve used plumb lines for wallpaper but not since I bought the laser level.

I just can’t compute what’s going on with it.

It is very rare walls are at 90 degrees in the corners.  Test it with a set square.

Could you tell us the two actual measurements, please? Ie, between the LH wall and the first groove on the back panel at the top, and ditto at the bottom?

The top measurement is 88mm and the bottom is 71mm.

    Thank you.
That's significant over such a short distance, a panel height of around 950mm?
Clearly, one or more of the two level readings you have taken is notably out. If the spirit level says it's 'level', it's fibbing.
The spirit level - it has a central vial for taking horizontal levels, and an end one for verticals? Just one end one, or one at each end? And it has a flat  bottom for placing against objects, and a 'top' surface, but this top is also 'flat'?
Test a spirit level like this - slap it upright against the LH wall. Note where, exactly, the bubble sits. Is it really slap bang in the middle? Ok, keeping the tool standing upright, rotate it 180o so that that the top surface is now against that wall. Observe the same bubble - where does it now sit?
Repeat on the back wall - align it with a vertical groove. Rotate.

How long is the spirit level you're using to check?  As mentioned earlier, check with your spirit level, then flip it and check again.
