Energy tariff dilemma
Hi Everyone
I am new here so apologies for any mistakes upfront.
I hope someone can at least give some guidence.
My current energy contract with Eon (pledge tracker v5) is going to end in October.
I also have an EV (tesla M3) so I am looking for a deal where I can charge it overnight for cheaper price.
My EV usage is not heavy so I am not sure if EV tariff will make it worth it overall.
Should I wait till Oct and re-evaluate what's the best deal when my current contract ends or should I just switch to EV tariff now, provided I can get out of my current contract without penalty.
Overnight charging at approx 7p per kwh sounds quite a lot cheaper than the flat rate of around 26p per kwh I am paying right now.
Anyone done a switch like this? I am sure a lot of ppl would have so some guidance will be really helpful.

Define "EV usage is not heavy".
What was your annual electric use before the EV?
How many kWh per month is at home charging (ignore public charger use)?
Will you move loads to the 0000-0700 EoN off peak (dishwasher, washer, dryer, immersion heater) to use more cheap off peak rather than daytime?
All makes a difference.
FWIW we moved from an EoN fix to EoN Next Drive v6.
I did a simple spreadsheet assuming 5000 of 7000 miles per annum at home and a variety of miles per kWh (or kWh/100mi) -- 500kWh of off peak base load, 3250kWH peak (our rough consumption), and I save money even at an amazingly frugal 20kWh/100 = 5 miles per kWh. Including the standing charge difference.
We don't shift stuff to off peak as the noise disturbs our sleep.0 -
2 ev's one done 3,800 since Sept 24
2nd done 4,000
So a total of 7,800 in 8 months or 975 miles a month, 243 a week.
On Intelligent Octopus
£££ in on the tariff
Average unit cost is between 12p & 15p kWh a month Daytime rate 27.48p kWh. 6 hours at 7pLife in the slow lane0
