I think interesting thing here not picked up, is that the buyer who didn’t raise a case got a refund, but seems buyer who raised the INR didn’t despite being in the same timescales.
So is the moral of this as a buyer if on SD don’t do anything if item doesn’t arrive?

Thanks Soolin. My funds are in. I was very against Simple Delivery at first but it does have its good points.

If something isn’t delivered then it’s between eBay and the buyer , I’ve not seen another instance, yet, of a buyer forcing eBay to refund them without opening case.

Either way seller gets paid and I assume a buyer opening too many cases would soon start being warned by eBay about losing the buyer guarantee.

  • Buyer who got the refund probably called eBay and was refunded by CS.

They would still need a case opened, but there is a possibility that as it was eBay’s responsibility to refund that eBay opened and closed a case while buyer was on the phone. Although having said that it seems rather generous of eBay to be refunding without making buyer wait , when a GSP item goes missing it’s been my experience that eBay make buyers wait for longer that normal, rather than rush to make a refund and lose the Money.

This was the message I got from Ebay-

Unfortunately, the item you sold was lost in transit and cannot be located.

There’s nothing you need to do. This item is covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee, so we've issued the buyer a refund of £8.99. You aren’t required to reimburse eBay, and your seller performance level won’t be affected.

It was done very quickly and the item was delivered the morning after. Im thinking it may be that the case could have been opened and closed at the same time but I thought I would have been made aware.

Usually a seller is still made aware, but as the liability now lies with ebay there's no real need.

As you said earlier this is one of the main benefits of SD, if this had been custom postage and you had refunded then you would have struggled to get any compo from the courier as item showed delivered. As it stands ebay have lost out.

Sellers can now send with no worries about delays where SD is used- as long as the item shows as being in the hands of the courier, that's it.

They seem to have lost the plot at the moment...

I posted on another thread about this; had a buyer open an INR, item was marked as delivered on the 28th May and in the case details they actually confirmed they'd received it. eBay have just refunded them.

I suspect ebay will reconsider their generosity if this starts happening a lot and perhaps look more closely into the amount of claims a buyer makes.
