Terraced house with only main entrance

Side access for maintenance in block of flats. Am always puzzled with terrace house and flat with I only one  entrance. How is maintenance being carried out. If flat is above  commercial property how are repairs being carried out. Thanks

Scaffolding, which would be taken through the property if no other access.

My first house was a terrace with the only access through the front door. I don't remember any issues and I had my garden renovated and that included the demolition of a garden shed and a new brick wall. Guess that was all done via the front door, the hallway, the dining room and the utility room - it was a long time ago.

Most terraced houses have a kitchen door that leads on to a small garden or courtyard.  Quite often that courtyard then leads on to an alley that runs behind all the courtyards providing access to the courtyards.

Had a terrace like that. The worst thing was dragging dirty bins through the house 🤢

I lived in a terrace like that, but there are also plenty without rear access... Whether most terraces have rear access is very debatable.

"most" terraced houses do not., there are huge swathes that do not, eg: housing on east London fringe such as Barking and Dagenham council area (at one time the largest council estate in the UK)

Many victorian terraced houses in London have no rear access. And many ex-council terraces house have rear access. We now live in one and I don’t think I can go back to having no rear access!

I've never seen a terraced house without rear access. Including the one I lived in, in London. I'm not doubting that they exist, just commenting on my surprise. I don't think I'd want to live in such a house. But, I'd prefer to live in such a house than a flat in a huge faceless block. (Which I have also lived in, in London).
