Income protection- acid reflux no longer a condition but insurance quadrupled!

Options
Hello all
I have just been on a 3 hour call with my broker to find income protection insurance... all was well and a package was found for £11...until in underwriting, I stated I had an endoscopy for acid reflux investigations. I have no diagnosis and have had no issues or medication for 12 months but when the quote came through it said it would no longer insure me! The next closest quote was suddenly almost £40 ??????
Does anyone know what this is about? It was an investigation that found no issues, treated with medication for 12 months then stopped? How is this something that would void an insurance request?
Anyone have info on a provider that is more balanced than this! It was through Vitality...

£11 for income protection seems far too cheap.  I had income protection until a few years ago and I was paying over £50 per month and I consider this a good price.
Strange investigation that found no issues but still required a 12 month course of medication.

To me it sounds like the questions may have been answered incorrectly on the application causing the original insurer to decline .

You state that you had acid reflux (this is the diagnosis).  I expect the investigations were to see if there was a cause of reflux such as a hiatus hernia or gastroparesis, but as you say, nothing was found so the results were 'normal'.  It is therefore not that you have no diagnosis, you just have idiopathic reflux ie. reflux with no known cause, which is very common.

The difference in cost between the Vitality and next best option sounds like these options are not on a like for like basis.  Vitality can often be cheaper due to their 'optimised' cover, which starts low in cost but increases unless you  actively participate in the Vitality health and wellbeing programme and do things like recording your daily steps, however, I wouldn't expect the premium to be that much cheaper.

Would recommend speaking to Cura Insurance brokers. They are specialist brokers for those with medical conditions and likely be able to help.

Note - I don't work for them or get any incentive to recommend I use them and they have been really good so just wanted to pass them on to others to help them

    Thanks so much! Will investigate....
