Vehicle tax debtors

I taxed the vehicle by direct debit from 1/1/24 to 31/12/24 at which point my dd expired and my mum told me she’d tax it - as posted above my mum clearly thought she’d taxed it but hasn’t.QrizB said:When did you last tax the vehicle? When did that tax expire? What evidence do you have of the vehicle being taxed since that date?
I’ve let her know she needs to sort it (but I’m surprised she hasn’t received any letters as the new registered keeper since Feb time) and I’m probably going to ask her to cover my fine

Thanks for clearing this up for me! I thought I was still getting letters because I was the registered keeper but there was no evidence of my name paying tax but it was actually because my mum hasn’t taxed it despite me checking with herMX5huggy said:How did your mum tax the vehicle? The registered keeper (owner, they can be different) does not have to pay for the tax anyone can pay for it just who ever pays for it needs to have paid for it against the correct vehicle it’s the registered keepers responsibility that it is paid.0 -
I'm confused. You said in the first post you didn't update the log book and was contacted about lack of tax, but that your mum has been the registered keeper since Feb?Elzorz said:

Does the letter tell you which dates it's referring to the car not being taxed?

If Mum was registered keeper from February they wouldn't be contacting you. It sounds like you might be being chased for the period 1st Jan to Feb where the car was not taxed by you as RK.Elzorz said:

How did you change keeper? Using the online service or posting off the V5c?0
