Thank for all the replies. I am making a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO),  which is the place for data protection complaints in the UK. As this is a data issue, I have respected any details of the organisation and myself. I was simply looking for general advice.

@Vitor, your answer was very helpful. I couldn't find how to accept it as a solution.

You won't, as it isn't how this site works. Unlike some where a reply does get identified as the solution.
If/when you get a response to your complaint, it would be great if you could provide feedback on this thread, as it may then help others who find themselves in a similar situation.

If the OP does come back to provide a resolution, it will be really helpful if they could also provide more clarity as to what the problem actually is.
Because I’m still not really any the wiser.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Something conspiracy related that they read on Facebook I suspect.

The company does not know how far these AI in learning programs go.
This was not a chat bot that has limited parameters and set answers, this was a learning program.
Public facing chatbots are not left in learning mode as this would enable members of the public to manipulate them in ways that would be of detriment to the company in question.  e.g. people "teaching" them to make racist statements in response to questions.

What makes you believe this one *was* in learning mode?

@born__again To add, if the AI was conforming to GDPR regulation, then why would I feel it overstepped that boundary
I hope you can see what an absurd question this is.   You're asking other people why you *feel* something.  The blunt answer is:  Because people believe all kinds of weird things, but their feelings don't make things true.

I think the answer to the first question is that the OP doesn’t under how an LLM works.
