Car damaged whilst having work done
My wife sent her Peugeot 307 in to have a cam belt replacement after being advised it would need doing soon after a MOT.
The work was done but on the very short journey home she realised there was no power in the car. The garage took the car back and tried a few things, replaced some parts but couldn't find the problem.
They said they would have to send it to Peugeot which they would cover the cost.
It's been 2 months now and they've finally said that a cylinder or something needs replacing and they're 95% sure this will fix the car. But it's over 2k which the garage say they will pay half as a gesture of good will.
They've been demanding we make a decision by today(they know we're on holiday and come home today) it seems to me they have damaged the car during the cam belt replacement and now expect us to pay for it. Where do I stand with this?
Thanks

Yeah you should pay for it, its entirely possible that something else broke, while it was in their workshop for an unrelated issue (cambelt and cylinder aren't related, unless you can prove one would affect the other).0

It's understandable that the garage want to move on. They're making a generous offer so why are you hesitant to accept it. On balance of probability it looks like they're at least partly responsible for the issue but as you can't prove it then there's not a lot you can do.0

They have wrecked your engine. To make sure you win in court you need an engineer's report. Tell them to delay any repairs until an independent engineer has inspected it. Hopefully that should make them do the right thing which is to repair it for free. The repair demands more competence than the timing belt change so whether they will do the repair well is another issue.1

Sounds like the messed up timing and got bent valves. What is the diagnosis?? Don't let them push you. It's a simple routine job and it's been bodged.1
