PRA Group Threatening Letter over unknown creditcard debt

Options
Hi everyone,
Looking for any guidance here or would like to hear from anyone in a similar situation.
I received a letter from PRA Group threatening me with court action for an unpaid debt of £4,000 they have bought from Barclaycard. I have never had a bank account or credit card with Barclaycard and completely unaware of this debt. The letter has had me in tears and scared me to death. I do not have any loans or debt. Not even a car on finance!
I called them this morning and raised a dispute. They had incorrect details for my email address and my mobile number but they had the correct current address and previous address. I know I have never had this credit card and now I am scared I am going to be taken to court for refusing to pay it back if they insist it was mine. How can I prove this must have be a case of fraud and someone has opened this credit card in my name against my will?
Many thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

I do hope you didn't give them your correct contact details for those they have wrong, as long as they have your correct postal address they cannot use sly moves as anything official need to be in the post.  You need to send them a "prove it" letter, it is not down to you to prove you do not owe the debt. https://debtcamel.co.uk/prove-it/

If you are 100% you have never had this account, they will have mis-traced someone with the same name and claimed it's yours. Check your 3 credit files in case they have added the debt to your record - ClearScore and Credit Karma for free are easy to check. As above, sending the prove it letter will be good

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It is on my credit history. 4 missed payments last year to a credit card I have no idea about. £4,000 @Nasqueron

I feel a formal complaint to the firm is now required instructing them to remove this false data from your file alongside the denial letter
