Hi ,I have a Acer K272HL monitor which is about 8 years old.
it has 1 HDMI-D input
1  VGA input
If I were to connect my DVR to the monitor via VGA and connect my PC to the HDMI socket  would I be able to select which input source I view or would this arrangement cause issues ?
Thank you for reading.

    Try it and see?

You can certainly select the source however some monitors have auto switching so if you are watching the DVR and nudge your mouse which wakes up the computer the new HDMI signal may make it switch to that input which may get annoying.

You'd need to check the manual to see if it has auto-switching and if it does, if it can be turned off or not.

No risk of damage - it'll work or it won't.
    Chances are it will.

Follow the setup correctly - eg monitor on before source.

Thanks to you All for your help with this matter. In the end I did just connect both input sources to the monitor and by manually switching inputs i can view either PC or CCTV
