We all got along fine before this sea of tat was readily available at such ease and some may suggest we were happier to.

Yes that is true. It's a want and not a need. But that applies to nearly everything we buy. e.g. we don't need a TV but most of us probably have one0 -
Then you are aware you are buying cheap and lower your expectations of quality.ButterCheese said:sheramber said:
Don’t buy cheap Chinese crap from Amazon to EBay either.molerat said:
And the identical cheap Chinese carp sold by other retailers - especially by the marketplace sellers on the likes of Amazon and Ebay - is made where ?sheramber said:Temu are selling items made in sweat shops.
Think how much a person was paid for making that item you bought cheap.
All very well saying that, but few people these days can afford to buy bespoke handmade items for £60 at a local beard and artisan basket fair, when plastic things are available online for £4!
No point buying cheap and complaining it is not of high quality.Buying it from Amazon or elsewhere doesn’t make it any batter than buying it from Temu.0 -
Indeed, on that line we could live in the woods and eat berries or rabbits (if you can find any, no rabbits round here unfortunately, not many berries either)ButterCheese said:

I'm not happy that things like TVs or white goods are poor quality these days but they are considered household staples, I'm not heading down to the river with my washboard or spending the entire evening talking to my family!
However this sea of mass produced rubbish coupled with the idea that to do anything you have to buy 200 different things to enjoy your hobby or whatever is relatively new and people go along with it because the process of buying shiny things makes them feel good, which has become more important than the questions raised about working conditions, the environmental impact and indeed the overall impact on our well being as both an individual and a community. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1 -
I buy a lot of earrings and get many from Etsy. The sellers are mainly small independent businesses and most are hand made, good quality and quite fun designs. The prices are very reasonable as well.ButterCheese said:sheramber said:

I have 3 sets, brontosaurus, stegosaurus and T rex. I’ve had lots of interesting comments. They cost £4.99 each including postage
