If legal, it’s a very cynical way of doing business. My mistake was quietly buying myself a bike without mentioning it to my wife, who was sat nearby. This is how it unfolded:
wife : what are you doing
    me: none of your business
wife: seriously, what are you doing
me: just bought myself a new bike
    wife: you haven’t!
    me: yes, why?
wife: I’ve already bought one for your birthday!!

    etc,etc

The fact a company makes it impossible to cancel an order immediately is pretty low
But... they don't make it impossible.  Their website gives details on how to do so.

    Hi
my query relates to ‘wiggle’, a company who sell cycling/running gear.  I used them years ago and they were good. Not so much now…
... They aren't illegal, they just have very close to the law processes which means they can do what they do without getting in trouble...
I think that's a rather harsh and unfair judgment - certainly in respect of Wiggle who appear to have done absolutely nothing wrong here with no evidence that they are "very close to the law".

@Grinch6912's problem seems to be that they didn't bother to read the T&Cs properly.   Wiggle Help Centre

It's an odd phrase but my suspicion is that the poster actually meant 'close to the edge/limit of the law' (but on the right side of the line) rather than 'close to the law' in the sense of outside it but not by much?

I agree it's an odd phrase.  I took it to mean "sailing close to the wind" (ie getting close to breaking the law or doing something that might seema bit questionable ).

I think it's an unfair comment in this case as Wiggle seems to have done absolutely nothing wrong and the failure seems to lie with the OP.

I'm no fan of Mike Ashley and what he's done to famous names like Karrimor, Field & Trek, Lillywhites, Dunlop etc, but I think it's unfair to criticise his companies simply because he ultimately owns them and not for what they've actually done - which in this case is nothing wrong.

I agree.  They're either complying with the law, or they aren't.  I don't see how they can be "close to the law".
