Ask the DVLA if they know, the date on the back of your current licence will just be the date of transfer and issue from the old syle manual system to the new style computerised system.1

On your photocard on the reverse in column 10 at the bottom is the date you passed your test...
Or at least that's what mine shows. But I passed in 2005.
You passed before DVLA came into existence.2 -
If you passed your test prior to the 1970's, you would have had an old style licence valid for 3 years..With the transfer from the old manual system to the modern computerised system in the 1970's, as the old 3 year manual system licences were renewed, the details were were transfered to the new computerised system and just the date the new style licence is valid from is shown in column 10 of the modern licence.
If the holder had a modern DVLA computer issued licence when they passed their test, the date in column 10 would show the date that the licence is valid from, which would also be the date they passed their test (or when the entitlement was added).1 -
Looking at my driving licence, it shows the original date passed, 1973.
The only discrepancy on mine is that I passed the PCV test for an automatic in 1989, but acquired grandfather rights to add manual transmission in 2014. Those affected groups show the 2014 date but the original car part shows 1973.0 -
Does it really matter? I passed my test in Germany in 1982, and was given a BFG licence. This is the equivalent of a full UK licence, and when I was posted back to the UK in 1984 I just swapped like for like. So, my UK driving licence says 1984, but I have held a full UK licence since 1982. Needed some explanations in the early years, but hasn't been an issue for decades
ADD.
In this context, BFG means British Forces Germany - not Big Friendly Giant !0 -
It depends why you need to know. I can remember how old I was when I passed so I can work out the year from that, but no idea of the month. I have always had insurance in my own name so for No Claims purposes I know how many years I have.
