Ebay Postage Confusion

'Sometimes, the courier has to cover more distance than expected. So, they will charge extra postage for which you are not responsible.'

This is the problem with big companies who have pushed CS overseas, stuff is simply made up.

AFAIK Royal Mail doesn't have different charges based on distance for UK delivery, some couriers have surcharges for certain areas (such as the tip of Scotland or NI).

I'm not sure how Royal Mail determine if a parcel is to be surcharged but had read a number of comments on here of the issue being two parcels going through the machine together so the weight is off.

Thanks for all the great replies. What put me off sending it back is I think royal mail worded it such, that the sender may not accept the package back and to pay online now or additional costs may be incurred. It threw me a bit. I had no idea what the contract was the seller and ebay had made with the postal service used and how i fitted in in all of it. Because, as a customer with royal mail, my 48 tracked large letter may be different then the contract ebay have. I bought another item on ebay, it said 1.55 postage. I didn't choose yodal and apparently neither did the seller. The seller emailed me to say, oh you chose yodal, but i didn't. This is my ongoing concern of being caught up in old postal prices, ebay choosing couriers and then me as a buyer having to pay excess postage to get my parcel. Some could even charge for storage of bigger items. I have great concern over who is the one buying the postal contract in the ebay transations, since ebay are so keen to get involved between seller and buyer.

I have been promised a refund for the postage. Whether I get it, is another matter, but been resolved.
