I am a little confused with a debt that I am currently paying off, it was oakbrook loans and the debt was passed on to ACI. This is where I am slightly confused they don't appear on my credit file, I had letters from them in the past which have been Mr instead of Miss so slightly confused with that also as my friend who works at a bank says I shouldn't be paying as they have got the wrong name and therefore they can't pursue me for the debt as its the incorrect name and I was wondering if that's why it does not appear on my credit file.
I owed just over £3k and got it with my ex husband because the debts in my name I of course have to pay it but the letters I have received are all Mr, I mostly get emails off them asking for a better payment monthly.
I am currently in a DMP with step change and was wondering whether or not to contact ACI but I have read other forms on here which talks about statue bar how do I check if I have that if I can.
I got the loan out in July / August 2021 but I have no clue whether the debt has defaulted or not as there is no evidence on my credit file.
I have had letters and emails in the past about paying more towards my debt but I can't even access my online account with them anymore so I am unsure what to do ?

Need help if anyone can help ??

  • The Oakbrook Loan on my account says it settled in 2023 and there is no other information added to it. I am unsure what to do as I have letters from ACI and emails but I had nothing in the last 3/4 months from them. There has never been anything on my credit file either and I am paying them a small fee every month but I am unsure whether I need to pay this debt back.

My advice would be stop paying, block phone numbers, ignore E Mails and texts and wait and see what comes through the post, once you have something sent by snail mail come back for more advice.

They don`t appear on your credit file as they probably aren't the creditor.

They may only be acting on behalf of Oakbrook.

Do the letters mention "our client" at all?

For a debt to be statute barred, there must be 6 clear years of non payment or written acknowledgement, since the date it defaulted, you only took the loan in 2021, so that won`t apply.

Whose name is the loan in? how different is that to your name?

  • When the letters come to my house they say Mr Todd - where at the moment I am know as Mrs Thompson or miss Todd due to my impending divorce. The loan was taken out as Miss Jessica Todd - but they keep calling me Mr
I had other debts passed on to debt collectors and they appear on my credit file the only credit file it appears on is Equifax and Experian but as Oakbrook Loans (Likely Loans) and on both credit scores they say settled in 2023.

The letters just have there details on and my old account number with Oakbrook loans.
