Having annoyances with Google Pay (& Samsung)

I don't suppose it matters whether it's Samsung or whatever else but I thought I'd throw it in there in case it does.
I was a long time Samsung Pay user & never really had an issue. Swipe up, hit the fingerprint & then pay. Job done. Issue was that some apps didn't like Samsung Pay. For example, if I try collect Texaco rewards via SP then it's a no-go ... they only play with Google Pay. There were other ones I found as well so I thought ok I'll switch to GP as I have no burning desire to use one over the other so long as it does the same.
No more swiping up, just unlock the phone & pay.
In theory.
More & more often I'm unlocking my phone, holding it to the terminal & then I'm getting blocked - getting a fingerprint prompt where I have to fingerprint again and THEN I can finally pay. Why the need to fingerprint a second time when I've literally just done it I don't know. Come on Samsung/Google, how do you think I got to that stage in the first place? And if it's for 'security' where perhaps you may be forced to unlock your phone against you will then don't they think if they've already forced you for step 1 then doing so for step 2 is more than likely going to happen anyway?
So yeah it's this second request for a fingerprint unlock that's annoying me. Is there a way to stop that? My phone is unlocked, I've literally just unlocked it, so pay!!

My OH has exactly the same problem. Very annoying as it only started up a few months ago after having worked faultlessly for a couple of years. Also a Samsung 23, so who knows ?0

All down to EU regulations, which Britain retained after Brexit. Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD2) is a European Union regulation that requires payment providers, banks, and merchants to implement Strong Customer Authentication (SCA).1

I just open GP on my Samsung, it asks for I.D (fingerprint) then tap and go.....I take it the first fingerprint OP is asked for is to unlock the phone, which is different to authorising GP payments.
Mine phone is unlocked while connected to my watch so I don't get that initial request for phone unlocking.

Mine asks for the second fingerprint once in a while, otherwise it's fine.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Some times that phone unlock is all it needs & the payment will go through just fine.
But more & more when I put my phone to the terminal it then blocks payment & wants me to fingerprint.
There's no consistency with it. Some times it doesn't happen but often it does.
And before anyone suggests maybe there's a time delay, I'm not talking about 10mins here. I'm literally unlocking my phone & immediately putting it to the terminal. The exact same process each time....... And some times it works fine but it's becoming often that it doesn't.0 -
Got this sorted now..... I've gone back to Samsung Pay.
Just went in to town & paid at about 4 different shops. First one was no problem, the other 3 I had to unlock, hold to terminal, get delayed, fingerprint again, hold to terminal again.
Samsung Pay it is then. Very poor from Google.0 -
