Using wool packaging in pots.

We have some wool packaging that came with a chilled delivery . It says it will disintegrates after 12 weeks and biodegrades completely after 12 months. I was wondering it I could use it at the bottom of some large pots to save on using so much compost . The pots would only be use in summer. Has anybody tried it.

That sounds like a great idea. I’ve even used broken up polystyrene packing in the bottom of big pots to save on the amount of compost needed.0

Once wet, you might find it starts shrinking down so the compost on top sinks. I used old 2L plastic milk containers with the lid screwed on to fill up the bottom of a half barrel used for carrots. Worked well and was able to rinse and recycle them at the end of the season.0

I think it disintegrates in the gorund after a year, not especially in a pot. I'd try layering it twice maybe, once in the bottom , once in the middle. It'll help with water retention anyway...try it, you've got nothing to lose

Try a bit without the compost or very little then water leave water again.
See what happens.
You can also use it to wind round newly planted seedlings or plants slugs get at. It keeps them safe
I collect wool from the fields for this each year.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
