Severe mental impairment council tax exemption moving to UC

Hi,
A family member has made a claim for UC after migration letter, moving from Housing benefit and Esa.
They currently get exemption from council tax due to SMI severe impairment.
They have received last payment of housing benefit and esa and waiting for uc first payment.
With regards to council tax will the SMI exemption just continue as normal or do they have to contact council to continue to get SMI ?
Thank you!

It should continue as before, however some councils have unusual rules so it may be as well to contact the council involved.
They should tell the council that they are Migrating to UC (and realise that their Housing Benefit will no longer be paid by the council). but they still have a SMI and so believe/expect that their Council Tax Reduction should continue as it currently is.
