  • I sent a statute barred letter, which was delivered at the start of this week, but ive just had a letter posted by hand with a hand written start of the letter stating to contact them. What do i do next, just wait for a reply? As they've only had my letter a couple of days?

Also I found an old letter from the end of last year which had the same reference to a text message I received from opos this last week that I didn't respond to should I send a statute barred letter to them aswell? Or wait ive not had a letter from them in 6 months?

Panicking a little bit at the moment so will appreciate any help

    Thanks in advance

Commission only scavenger, never respond to such leeches.

I suspect that you have a Statute Barred debt that Intrum has bought after scraping information from Capquest Database.

Their M.O. for me was to set Capquest as the Debt Management company who then instructed OPOS, they were on the case for 3 to 6 months and then fired only to be replaced by Perch Group Leeches. Perch start with two letters from ACI, then they escalate to their own Perch doorstepper Perch Verify Ltd, who send a letter saying they wanted to come around for a cup of tea or something stronger and if I did not contact them within 7 days they would come along.

They had different dates within the ACI letter and so on one hand they have passed the 7 days or they will this month.

The Perch Verify letter was not dated, in fact it seems to me that Perch Verify is just a letterhead and a limited company structure (WITH CHARGES) because it's filings at Co House show any accounts are done by parent company and you can be your own judge on the state of those published accounts.

The whole Perch Verify communication is to get you to call Perch ACI, they say they have been instructed by ACI, they ask you to contact ACI within "7 days from the date of this letter" the letter is undated!

As for the scavenger leech it would not surprise me if they subcontracted the doorstep activity to ResolveCall.

    A few interesting things:

    They say

"Our field agents are specially trained and approved (BY WHOM) individuals who visit customer properties with the aim of verifying their place of residence and putting the customer in contact with our client

So they are not even there to collect

    They even say

"The purpose of the visit is to offer you a further opportunity to contact our client to discuss the repayment of your outstanding debt and hopefully, resolve the matter amicably."

So it is all about the usual nudge nudge nudge pressure pressure pressure enforcement activity which in both of our cases is not allowed under FCA CONC rules for Statute Barred Debt.

I wonder if I should start talking about myself in the 3rd person to sound more official like!

I am considering whether it is better to just record them using my video doorbell and posting that on YT or whether I should make a monty python sketch over the doorbell. Perhaps deny that the person lives here and when they ask my name say it is Mr Barred, initial S.

As for your partner, explain that an old debt has risen from the dead and she is not to let anyone in and should not open the door to anyone without a chain or even at all if she is not expecting someone.

Have her watch this video of resolvecall, the guy himself can't keep a straight face!

I am still not clear whether you have two different debts but considering the MO I think it is probably one and the source is probably Intrum via Capquest.

It is worth WARNING YOU that at the end of the verify letter it will have an email, 0987654321@aciuk.uk that number is your 7 digit account number, so it identifies you, therefore do not use it
Thanks, that's brilliant information, I think I have more than 2 debts to be honest but i cant even remember who they were with and ive had letters many years ago from some companies telling me that its statute barred and that they wouldn't be chasing me etc but I cant even remember what them debts were for.

I've now got a video doorbell so we can monitor who is at the door but funnily enough the doorstep collector that posted my letter by hand knocked on the door instead of using the doorbell

I'll get my partner to have a look at the video thanks

I have mine set to come on if there is any movement, it is bizarre but nearly all the delivery people do not ring the doorbell.

Dancers in some countries can do fantastic moves on the space taken up by a postage stamp, the only people who rival them are debt collectors, TVL Sbags and other toads, they have a unique spin on the spot the moment they see the doorbell camera.

I kept all my letters, it was not be being clever, I just stuck them in a plastic bag once I recognised the return addresses.  Much later on I opened them and filed them, they show the practices of the various firms and they are of course evidence of enforcement which is useful should any debt consolidator decide to ask court for more time (unlikely).

Probably best to come clean with your partner that this was a hard time in your life but you are through it now and it will take some time to deal with alleged debts which are definitely Statute Barred.

Just inform her that it is important to have a DO NOT ENGAGE policy on all who turn up at door.

I don't order much online these days and when I do I always know when it is coming, sometimes with up to the minute notifications or maps, you have the app for the doorbell so no need to engage unless you can see it is someone you want to speak to.

She knows it all, and ive explained all this information to her.

I've set it to movement too, so hopefully she won't answer the door by accident. 🙂
