Epson EcoTank ET-18100

Epson EcoTank ET-18100. I bought this printer on the 26th February 2024. It was pretty expensive and cost me £592.55. It is an ink tank printer so the running costs are lower and I thought I would save over the long term.

It has now failed a couple of months outside of warranty and Epson are quoting me ~£360 to get it fixed.

This does not seem like a "reasonable length of time" for the product to last. I'm getting a call back from a supervisor in the next 24 hours.

Any advice?

When you say, 'It has failed', what exactly has happened to it?

Do you mean it is consuming ink faster than you expected?

Your consumer rights are with Amazon.  They may ask you to have it inspected to determine the fault and its likely cause.

Direct from Amazon or a Market Place seller?

Direct from Amazon UK. (Sold by Amazon EU S.à r.l., UK Branch.)

"It has failed" - it turns on, makes some grinding noises and then a paper jam light comes on. There is no paper visible and I do not believe any paper has got stuck at any point. There is a one star amazon review that talks about  "phantom paper jam issues”.

You should get in touch with Amazon.  Epson are entitled to charge a repair fee if it's out of warranty.  The supervisor may discount the quote you've had, but the only party you have any rights with is Amazon.

I see a couple (just quickly scanning through) of one star reviews relating to paper jamming but there are 651 total ratings and 71% are 5 star vs 11% 1 star. I'm not convinced that points to an inherent fault. And both seem to reference it jamming from the start, not over a year after purchase.

As Aylesbury Duck says, speak to Amazon and mention your consumer rights. Epsom can, if they wish, charge you whatever they want as an out of warranty repair if they're not the seller.

Have you used a different supply of paper?

We once  had a similar problem and it only happened with one batch of paper from a different source.
