I have an old VW campervan which I hardly use, so I think it's time to sell it.
Would ebay be a suitable place to sell ?
What fees would be involved .. let's say it sold for £8,000
Is cash the best option oris through ebay OK

I wouldn't, too many scammers. I have sold cars on Ebay but they were real old bangers worth under £600 and 'sold as seen'
I think Autotrader is a better bet0 -
on Ebay you will get charged approx 14% of the sale price - don't quote me on this but that was the rough figure when I last sold a vehicle (with eBay seller fees and paypal took a cut). But for those fees you aren't really getting much for your money i.e. eBay motors exempts itself from any protection so effectively all vehicles are "sold as seen". I spent £1100 on a motorbike once and the seller was a scumbag liar who sold me a lemon, but eBay said they can do nothing to help.FB Marketplace is first port of call for most people these days. Yes you get time wasters but that's the price you pay for a free service. If your advert is well written and the pictures/details are all legit then you should get genuine interest.Autotrader is also a good bet, you tend to get more mature buyers on there and less "will you swap for my pitbike" type of queries. But IIRC it's £30+/month.Simple asnwer - FB market place, state no canvassers or agencies, don't bother responding to anyone who just says "is this still available". You can adjust the price after a while if you're not getting much interest. You can also accept cash or bank transfer and not have to pay fees when sold. And you can list in specific groups such as "VW owners South East" or whatever, to really reach your intended market0

As well as the above there are online groups and forums for camper vans, many have a classified section and if you are a member you can advertise there for free. You may need to pay a membership fee but it could be a cheaper option than auto trader or EBay.1

Can't vehicles be advertised in a classified format on Ebay so you don't need to pay a large percentage fee on the full value?0

Yes you can list as a classified ad (£19.99 + extras) but the same still applies as an auction ie. you have to mark it as sold, you then pay a fee. Many people get around this and just cancel the ad when they sell it, but tell eBay it didn't sell. You can do that, but if found out you can get banned0 -

Selling with Classified Ads | eBay
It's a fixed £19.99 and there are no FVFs to pay (assuming OP is a private seller)

Gumtree is also available. I've bought a car using Gumtree, but not bought. Not sure what fees are (if any).
So long as you're truthful in your ad, it will be sold as seen, no comebacks.0
