Royal Mail fee to pay

Sent a small parcel Tracked 48, Royal Mail says a fee to pay, no card with customer but CS (after 20 minute wait to get through) said the fee was £3.20 but there isn't a fee for £3.20, there is one for £3.50 for insufficient postage paid on a small parcel but the postage can't be insufficient unless they think it's a medium parcel and have applied the wrong fee.

Any ideas? Don't really want to pay (another) £3.20 or £3.50 and the customer doesn't get the item.

I had similar. Ended up getting the Customer to collect (if they can in this case) and then refunded them the fee. They didn't get a card either so had to give the details etc

Was annoying as RM had weighed it at my local PO and told me what postage to pay!

The Post Office are not Royal Mail. They don't seem to have clue. I've lost count of the number of times I have taken packages to our local post office and been told they don't have the correct  postage on. I weigh and measure my packages and buy online from Royal mail but the Post Office staff dont have a clue.
